There was a deathly hush in the forest. The snow fell quietly covering the ground. A silvery white stage walked thought the forest quietly waiting to hear the sound of a young kits screams of death. He wouldn’t prevent it because it was something that had to be done for the good of the future.
He stood and waited. Finally came the scream of fear and pain. The roar of the mother and then the strangled yowl of the kits last scream. Then came the heart ranching cry of the mother.
That’s when he turned and ran after the creature that was the cause of its death. He heard the mad growl of the dead kits father. He jumped in the path of the Caman named Theron.
Theron growled at him and tried to get around but he blocked his path and said. "Leave him Theron he won’t bring back what’s been taken."
"But I can sink my teeth into his flesh and make him suffer! How can you just let them do this and kill us and our young! You The Great Stag, Protector of the Forest won’t even protect us! Go after him kill him or let me do what you can’t!" Theron growled.
"No, he must be let go. Besides you have a mate to comfort, go to her she needs you now in her time of sorrow." Subore’s face went solemn as he got up and walked back to the sound of the moarning cries of his mate.
The stag turned and walked into the forest and up the mountain.
Meanwhile a heart broken mother cried over the lifeless body of her kit. Her mate rapped his arm around her and listening to her sobs.
When the snow had melted the Caman’s where on the move with Theron leading them to their new home where they’d raise their young. Only both him and his mate wouldn’t be raising a kit. She still hadn’t said a word sense the death of their kit and stayed in the back of the clan.
All she could do was stair at the other kits and their mothers and think of her own. She felt envy toword them. It wasn't fair they had their kits and he's was dead. Why didn't she keep a closer eye on him. She should have been watching him better.
She then heard a cry. She turn around, listening for a momment before walking towards it. She kept walking till she found a crying baby raped in a blanket in the middle of the woods. She pulled the blanket of the face of the child and saw it was a human child.
She growled and was ready to kill it like the human had killed her own! She claws were about to slice its throat when she stopped and saw the stag. Behind some trees looking at her and the child. She then looked back at the child and realized he had brought her the child. He had brought it to her. She looked at the child and realized this child was not the cause of her own kits death. It had done no wrong and it didn’t deserve to die. She looked back up at the stag and saw he was gone. She couldn’t leave it here it would die on its own. The babies crying got louder and she picked it up and cradled it in her arms. After a few minutes its crying stopped and she looked down on its peaceful face. She then knew she was meant to keep it as her own. Here she was crying over the death of her own when here was a new kit full of life, and he needed her.
She licked him gently and started walking back to her clan with the baby in her arms.
Theron followed the tracks of his mate trying to find her. He had seen her walk off and followed leaving his brother Dorian in charge. Soon he lost her trail and yowled and listened for a reply. After a few momments he heard her. He went towards the sound of her call and found her with something in her arms.
"Salain what is that?" he asked stepping forward.
"It’s a baby." Salain said smiling down at the human baby.
Theron gave a low growled and said "Why did you bring it with you, you should have killed it. Don’t you remember it was one of those that killed our kit?"
"It wasn’t his fault after all I couldn’t just leave him he’d die."
"We’d be better off! Give it here I’ll take care of it."
"No!" Salain growled pulling the baby closer to her chest. "Just because a human killed our kit that doesn’t mean we can kill him and besides we couldn’t if we wanted to!"
"The stage brought him to me!"
"How do you know he didn’t bring him to us to kill?"
"You and I both know he’s not that cruel."
"He let our kit die." Theron growled.
Salain went quite for a minute before replying"He has his resounds and we might never understand but now we have him and we are keeping him." Salain said and then looking at the child saying quietly "He gave us another chance. I mean look at him. He’s just a baby."
"Babies grow up and they kill just like their fathers."
"But this one won’t have that father he’ll have you instead. Please Theron don’t make me loose another."
Theron looked at the small child still asleep and with a sigh said "Fine, but if it hurts you or anyone in the clan I will not hesitate to kill it on the spot."
Salane didn’t care what he said she loved him already.
